Included in PrintBusters Toolkit for Fusion 360
Select by Area
Select one profile or face, then find every match in your design. No more clicking them one by one.
What it does
You select a sketch profile or a face, run the tool, and it selects every other profile or face in the design with the same area. Useful when you need to apply the same operation (extrude, fillet, chamfer, appearance) to many identical features.
Where to find it
Design - Modify - PrintBusters Toolkit - Select by Area
How to use it
- Select one or more sketch profiles or faces in your design
- Go to Modify - PrintBusters Toolkit - Select by Area
- Enter an area tolerance (how close the match should be, in mm²)
- For faces: choose whether to match flat faces only or all face types
- Done - all matching profiles or faces are added to your selection
Tolerance
- 0.01 mm² (default) - very strict, matches nearly identical areas
- 0.1 mm² - slightly forgiving, good for imported geometry
- 1.0 mm² - loose matching, useful for rough selections
Works with
- Sketch profiles - scans all sketches in the design, including inside components
- Faces - scans all bodies and components, with an option to filter flat faces only
- Assemblies and nested components are fully supported
Good to know
- Your design is never modified - the tool only reads geometry and updates the selection.
- You can select multiple reference profiles/faces to match against several areas at once.
- Areas are compared in mm² but Fusion works in cm² internally - the tool handles the conversion.
Troubleshooting
No matches found
- Try increasing the tolerance (e.g. from 0.01 to 0.1)
- Make sure you selected a profile or face, not an edge or point
Some profiles can't be selected
- Fusion 360 doesn't allow selecting profiles from suppressed or hidden sketches
- The tool will skip these silently and count only the ones it could select
